Ecomantra is a sustainable tourism venture promoting eco-friendly, activity - oriented eco holidays and experiential learning. Ecomantra operates its own eco-camp, designs unique eco holidays and activities with an interesting insight into nature and local culture and promotes local ownership in operations. Ecomantra's main forte is the wide variety of experiential activities and programs that are constantly innovated upon.

At Ecomantra, we aim to create awareness about nature through pro-active learning in the outdoors. We are involved with responsible travel to natural areas that enables travelers to experience and explore the Indian wilderness in an adventure filled, educative and enjoyable way, while conserving the environment and sustaining the well-being of locals.

In our quest to develop sustainable tourism opportunities we partner with local communities to strengthen economies and create a sense of pride and ownership among them. We aim to preserve the natural eco systems and traditions including natural resources, cultural lifestyle, cuisine, arts & crafts, traditional architecture and heritage monuments.

Our 4 point mission includes:

• To be a self sustainable, profit making venture for rural & urban team members, who can make a career in responsible & experiential ecotourism.
• Practice genuine responsible travel by offering a direct nature experience in the wilderness.
• Involve locals in the sustainable programs & practices and in the participation of experiential programs.
• To conduct and develop eco-holidays and experiential learning programs in natural areas across India and ultimately throughout the world.

The Origin of our story

Ecomantra was formed in the year 2000 in Mumbai by Mahrukh and Ravi Goel along with a few nature lovers and members of Bombay Natural History Society. The founders were a part of the core team that facilitated the creation of 2 new wildlife sanctuaries in Goa; the Netravalli and Mhadei, while working for the proposed Bhimgadh Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka. They also volunteered for education activities in WWF, BNHS and the Mahim Nature Park society.

Witnessing the devastating effects of deforestation, poverty and lack of awareness among villagers and urbanites, moved them into action. Eco-tourism was discovered as a powerful tool to protect our natural heritage and provide a sustainable livelihood. The company initiated operations by promoting eco-friendly home stays near Mumbai and Pune and conducting eco-workshops in the city. In 2003, Ecomantra began a community tourism venture called Rivertrail eco-retreat, on the banks of river Kundalika. This is Maharashtra’s first and only community owned campsite, run and managed by the villagers living near Kolad, with the help of training and investment from the company. It is also the place where Ecomantra formed its roots!

Today Ecomantra has expanded its footprint to cover various eco holidays, volunteer holidays and experiential activities across India and abroad. We have exclusively partnered with like-minded people and developed programs to bring together a genuine and interesting experience for our travelers. We also continue to conduct eco-workshops and volunteer days, to promote environment conservation.
