SUNDARBANS WORLD HERITAGE SITE - CRUISING IN THE MANGROVE FOREST

A TYPICAL TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1:  In the morning you will be picked up from Calcutta and transferred to Sonakhali jetty through beautiful countryside and rural bazaar’s with stopovers at a local tea shop and fishermen’s villages. You will arrive at Sonakhali mid morning and will be greeted with morning tea and an orientation by the local guide.  

Welcome aboard the boat for a two hour cruise through rivers Hogol, Gomor, Durgaduani and Gumdi.  An optional stopover is available at Gosaba - one of the earliest human settlements in the Sunderbans, to visit the house of Sir Danniel Hamilton, a Scottish banker who initiated the first co-operative movement of India here.

After arriving at your destined island, check in the beautiful eco lodge.  Experience a three hour Birding and Game cruise to Sudhanyakhali watch tower through creeks and canals, searching for the elusive tiger, as well as monkeys, dolphins, otters and further array of fauna in the afternoon. You will return to camp by evening greeted with tea and snacks and Sundarban’s orientation by one of the camps poacher-turned-guide.  A sumptuous local cuisine from the village’s organic farm will end your day of discovery at Sunderbans Jungle Camp.

Day 2: After a filling breakfast you will begin your whole day of Game Cruising and Bird Touring to Netidhopani watchtower (Subject to weather permitting) including crab catching and fishing expeditions from the fragile country boats. Enjoy on board lunch in your cruise boat.

Back to camp in the evening where you are warmly invited for an evening cultural experience by the local rural theatre (Bonobibi Yatra) performed by the villagers. The theatre tells the interesting story of the Tiger Lord, Forest God, Goddesses, fishermen and honey collectors using songs & dances.

Day 3:  After breakfast you will depart for the city of joy - Calcutta. We discover some iconic places in the hidden nooks and corners of Calcutta.


Day 4: Departure from Calcutta after breakfast. After a 3 hours train journey from Howrah, we will reach Santiniketan open university established by the great poet and nobel laurete, Rabindranath Tagore. In the afternoon we explore the rich diverse cultural fabric of this iconic university.

Day 5: Today we will visit the museum complex and art & craft centre, and experience cultural programme along with a village tour followed by a local cuisine lunch at Ballavpur Danga tribal village.

Day 6: Return to Calcutta by evening
