Volunteering
We invite dedicated volunteers to join us in volunteer programs and volunteer days for conservation initiatives. These topical programs and days are announced through our newsletters and on the homepage of our website.
Ecomantra works with the conservation department of BNHS (Bombay Natural history society), through help in voluntary projects announced at various times of the year in Mumbai city
As a visitor and participant of our eco holidays, we regularly update you on voluntary requirements of the destination you have visited and any new developments in that area
We also require volunteers for our eco workshops and nature programs
Ecomantra’s Background In Volunteering
- Our team members have worked as volunteers for prestigious institutes like Bombay Natural History Society, Conservation Education Centre (Goregoan), World Wildlife Fund for Nature and Maharashtra Nature Park Society.
- Campaigning for protection of wildlife and its habitat.
- We have been part of a core group of conservationists who had initiated the campaign for legally protecting the forests of Bhimgad in the state of Karnataka. We are proud of being associated with the same core group of conservationists led by Durgesh Kasbekar who along with other dedicated individuals and local groups, had impressed upon the state government of Goa to declare two wildlife sanctuaries (Netravali & Mahadayi) - in the process, Goa became the only state in India to have brought the entire Western Ghats hill range and its forests that falls within its political boundaries, under a legally protected network. Thus nearly 25 percent of the geographically area of Goa is now protected by law.
- Ecomantra team has also played a major role in imparting environmental education and nature awareness programs for different sections of society, especially focusing on school and college students. Programs are also conducted to teach disadvantaged children like those in orphanages, street urchins and pavement dwellers.
- Ecomantra’s visitors have taken an active role in stopping the construction of a 8th dam on the river Kali in Dandeli, which would have destroyed forests and wildlife in return for a mere 17 MW of hydroelectric power. Our visitors played an important role through their quick action and written faxes to the ministry of environment and forests, putting pressure on them for rejecting the proposal of building this destructive dam.
A Note for Specialised and Skilled Volunteers
Environment Education
If you have a passion for the environment it is possible to teach environmental awareness in local schools, within the community where our volunteers serve. Volunteers can form student groups to work on environmental projects based on their personal expertise and the needs of the village community. Example projects include: creating "green" clubs, planting a flower garden, planting trees, garbage management, recycling programs, making a smokeless stove, building a toilet pit, etc.
Health Care and Medical Volunteering
We need skilled health practitioners, social workers, educators, counsellors and administrators. We welcome groups for medical camps at Rivertrail, to enable them to conduct medical camps in villages like Gove, Kolad, Sambhe, Ambevadi and Palekhurd.

Volunteer Holidays
Volunteer holidays are meant for those looking at a longer, meaningful holiday in which they can contribute, learn and enjoy as well. Volunteer holidays are ideal for anyone who is craving something more adventurous and stimulating from their holiday than the usual typical routine of relaxing and sight-seeing. Volunteer holidays allow you to give ‘something back' to the country and region you are visiting and, at the same time, experience the culture on a far more intimate level than the average tourist.
A volunteer holiday is almost always a ‘life changing experience.' Going on a volunteer holiday really helps to put life in to perspective and you learn so much from the local people you work with. Volunteer holidays are also a great way to meet other like-minded travellers and many people return home having forged life-long friendships. On a more practical level the experiences and new skills you acquire from going on a volunteer holiday really enhance your CV too. Choose from Ecomantra’s volunteer holidays here:
