Volunteer day in Tungareshwar wildlife sanctuary
Volunteers required for Mahashivratri Festival 2009 to protect Sanjay Gandhi- National Park (SGNP) & Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary (TWLS).
This year Mahashivratri will be celebrated in March this year. Ecomantra Nature Awareness and Travel and The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), in association with the Forest Department once again calls upon volunteers and nature lovers to monitor and tackle the large number of devotees that swarm SNGP and Tungareshwar WLS for the celebrations.
What will Volunteers Do?
Volunteers will be manning the entrance gates of the beautiful Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and check the visitors for any Inflammables (matchboxes, aincense sticks) and Plastics (plastic bags). They will be confiscated from the visitors and returned to them on their way back. The flowing crowd of visitors will also be stopped from wandering into the forest. A vigil will be kept for forest fires, and necessary action taken at the earliest, if required.
Timings
Volunteers can offer their services in 2 batches: 7.30 am to 2.30 pm
or 2.00 pm to 7.30 pm.
The continued efforts of Volunteer groups and the Forest Department have helped in managing and controlling the situation at SGNP and Tungareshwar WLS. However, to further strengthen and manage the situation in Tungareshwar, especially during Mahashivratri, large-scale efforts are required. This Mahashivratri, we request a greater participation at Tungareshwar WLS, and we hope we will receive full-hearted support and cooperation from one and all.
