Inviting Butterflies

Many of us have delighted in the beauty of fluttering butterflies. Now you can bring them right into your garden or balcony. This workshop details which plants help attract particular butterflies, the lifestyle of butterflies, their feeding patterns and simple things you can do to invite them near your home, institute or corporate premises.

Common Wildlife around us

Rabbits, Turtles, Snakes, Spiders, Frogs, Ducks, Lizards, Chameleons, Moths, Beetles, Squirrels and Fish!
We have a lot of wild creatures in and around our own homes too!
This program shows you some of these fascinating creatures, live and in an interactive manner.
You can take most of these creatures in your hands and get rid of any fears, queasiness or myths you have about them. Have fun and enjoy the company of animals while you empathise with their life.

Snake Alive Interactive

This program involves a talk and demonstration on Snakes, breaking myths and wrong notions about them and giving reality bites in the form of actual scientific information. Participants are encouraged to observe and learn to hold and react to non-venomous snakes in the correct manner to help them get rid of their fears. The rescued snakes are then released in Mumbai’s national park.

Duration: 2 hours

Elephant in the city

This program discusses the use of animals in the city, debates about the role of animals living in a human habitat, their domestication by us and the comfort level of each animal with humans. If possible, an elephant and his mahout are invited in this program, or bullocks, cows with a cowherd, madaris and monkeys to make it interactive.

Nature Games and Activities

Games are loved by people of all ages. Nature games aim to bring participants close to nature, have lots of fun and learn something new for conserving nature.
Some of the games you will play are Prey and Predator (for Team bonding), Building a Tree, Noses, Animal-Animal, Folding Poem, The Camera Game.
These are some the unique team games which we will play in the outdoors and indoors to enjoy bonding together as well learn subtly the intricacies of how nature works. These games offer partnering and team activities along with a direct, meaningful experience with nature.

Duration: Minimum 2 hours – Maximum 3 hours

Silent Sharing activities

Observing nature around you, listening and absorbing every sound and sight on your walk, without a single word, is an experience to behold. This is a good workshop for improving the senses of hearing, touch and smell. A combination of individual and partnering activities will take us on a journey of nature, offering you a meaningful and inspiring experience which remains memorable for a long time.
Some of the activities are Nature Journeys, Silent Sharing, Meet a Tree, Sound Maps and Still Watching.

Duration: 2 hours

Location: Outdoors in the lawns or garden or in any green area around the premises

The Secret Life of Plants

Why are some plants worshipped? Which are the best plants to grow around you? This field trip will answer many such queries. Conducted in Mumbai, this session includes a nature walk in a woody area, discovering the amazing nature of plants and trees, how they survive, unearthing their secrets in the process. Activities like ‘Meet a Tree’ will be conducted on this field trip, bringing participants closer to trees and plants. We will also learn how to identify some common plants and trees in your own area.

Duration: Morning from 8.00 am to 11.00 am

Location: In a nature park or city forest

The Secret Life of Insects

*Monsoon Special
Brushed off as the most repulsive creatures by human beings, insects have a fascinating life, which when discovered, can replace our scorns with a sense of marvel for these creatures who outnumber all others. This program includes a walk in a forest conducted by an Expert in the subject, some real interaction with the behaviour pattern of insects followed by a slide show and a game on the role of insects in nature.

Duration: Morning from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon

Mumbai from a Mangrove

The real Mumbai when it comprised seven marshy islands, was fully one prominent inhabitant: the mangroves, which protected its coastline from storms and floods and sheltered a unique ecosystem. Mangroves spread freely harbouring and feeding hundreds of creatures like fishes, insects, birds in an eco-system of its own. We now visit one such area, which is still lush in mangroves, where the original role of the Mumbai mangrove system can be discovered and thousand secrets revealed. An expert on Mangroves takes you around on a nature walk, or even a boat ride if possible through the marshy world of mangroves, which will be late followed by a slide show. A Mangrove plantation session will conclude the trip.

Flamingo Watch

The pink flamingoes flock Mumbai city every year. Here is a chance to see these beautiful creatures up close. Also included will be a visit to the ramparts of the Sewri fort close to the flamingo marsh area. The nature walk will be followed by a slide show on flamingoes and other migratory birds seen in Mumbai

Animal Yoga – a series on yoga from nature

This is a fun session which is ideal during the Wildlife week. Yoga has been greatly influenced by animals and birds in nature – the Eagle, the Lion, Cat, Dog, Crocodile, Snake, Locust and the Fish. We imitate Animal and Bird postures and even their movements developed in Yoga. The animal and the benefit of the posture derived from the animal is explained in detail. Other creations from nature like the sun and moon posture, the tree and the mountain postures are also discussed.

Animal Kungfu

This is a series on Kungu stances from animals. A martial art expert demonstrates and makes you learn too Karate stances and Movements adapted from observing animals like the Leopard, Monkey and the Crocodile. Blocking and attacking both are learnt from the way animals survive in the forest. This is a fun session with a lot of animal calls as well.

Natural Food Habits

Visit a place in Mumbai, where sugarcane, brinjals, tomatoes, lemons, chillies, pomegrantes, chickoos, oranges, guavas, etc have been grown on terraces in simple plastic drums through organic farming techniques since a number of years. Terrace farming yields good profits to the owner while ensuring them pesticide-free healthy food. Experts on terrace/backyard farming give a talk on the benefits, answer queries & discuss the possibilities of implementing organic farming in your house or at work.
